the world safe enough for us?
Dhriti Hazarika
Why girls are told not to go out alone, not wear too short clothes, not to stay out late, not to trust strangers, why people love to blame women? Why must a girl constantly change her life just to feel safe or follow her dream? Isn't she every right to live her life how she want? Why we have to compromise on everything?
Girl's safety is treated like a joke. Sadly society often teaches girls how to avoid danger instead of teaching people not to create that danger in first place.
The saddest part is that when something happens, people often question the girl's instead of questioning the person who harmed her. Her character, clothes, timing, and decisions become topics of discussion, while the real issue gets pushed aside.
A girl's safety should never depend on what she wears, where she goes, or how carefully she behaves. Every girl deserves to study, work, travel, laugh, and live without fear.
And safety is not just about making strict rules for girls. It's about accountability, respect, proper education, effective laws, and a society that takes every complaint seriously.
A girl should not have to live in fear to prove that she is careful. The world should be safe enough for her to live freely.
The real question isn't "Why wasn't she careful enough?"
It's "Why wasn't the world safe enough for her?"
Society asks, “What was she wearing?” instead of “Why did he assault her?”
Society says, “She must have provoked him.” instead of teaching people that attraction never gives anyone the right to violate another person's consent.
